J. Richard Wells, MD
Dr. Wells graduated in 1977 with a Doctorate in Medicine from Georgetown University Medical School in Washington, D.C. He interned in general surgery at Emory University in Atlanta Georgia, before completing his residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at Georgetown University in 1982. Dr. Wells was Co-Director of the Sports Medicine Clinic at Georgetown University from 1982-1985. During that same period he was also an assistant team physician for Georgetown University varsity sports, the Washington Bullets professional basketball team, the Washington Capitals professional hockey team, and Team America professional soccer team. Dr. Wells entered private practice in 1985 as a general orthopedist with a special interest in sports medicine, joint replacement and spine surgery. Since 1999, Dr. Wells has been a Clinical Instructor for the George Washington University Orthopeadic Residency Program. He was a former Clinical Instructor for the Georgetown University Orthopeadic Residency Program from 1982 to 1999. In addition Dr. Wells has been providingclerkship instruction to medical students from Georgetown University Medical School and George Washington Medical School since 1985. Dr. Wells is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopeadic Surgery, a member of the Washington Orthopeadic Society, the North American Spine Society and the John Carroll Society. Dr. Wells is affiliated with Sibley Memorial Hospital in Washington, D.C. Dr. Wells has retired from performing surgery. He has a referral network of surgical specialists who have extensive training and experience.

Dr. Wells has resided in the Washington
Metropolitan area since 1973. He received his undergraduate degree
from Villanova University, Philadelphia, Pa, in 1971. At Villanova
University Dr. Wells earned a 4-year athletic scholarship, was a
three-year starter, served as co captain of the varsity football
team and inducted into the Villanova Hall of Fame. Dr. Wells completed
his postgraduate studies in pre-medicine at Villanova University
in 1973.
