Total Joint Replacement

Degenerative arthritis caused by aging, trauma, or congenital deformities may ultimately require a total joint replacement, after non-operative and/or limited invasive surgery is no longer effective. The hip and knee are the most common joints to undergo replacements. Less common is replacement of the shoulder joint. The anticipated life expectancy for a joint replacement is approximately 15 years.  “Revision” procedures of total joint replacements are infrequently necessary when the components wear out, or loosen, or bone fractures occur around the prosthesis.
